Data from the United Network of Organ Sharing can provide you with national, state and regional information about the number of donors available each year. Information can also be obtained about organ and tissue transplantation.

If you are from the state of Mississippi, there is not yet an on-line registry for organ and tissue donation. Signing your driver's license or indicating your wishes on your state ID are your two options. Most of all, discuss your wishes with your family members.   • Want to get involved? Here are several suggestions to help you become an advocate for organ and tissue donation.
  • Find out where and when any organ donation programs are occurring in your area. The best way to do so is to contact the Transplant Center in your region or the Organ Procurement Agency. Their staff can give you more information on how you can participate in such programs.
  • Organize a "Donate Life" drive that would provide more information to local residents. Invite a local organ donor or recipient to tell their story.
  • If you live in Mobile, contact the USA Regional Transplant Center to find out how you can help with planning or assisting with outreach and educational opportunities.
  • Planning a family reunion or cruise vacation? What a wonderful opportunity to talk about organ donation with your friends and family? Contact us for more information regarding brochures and donor cards.
  • Getting together for Thanksgiving dinner? Use the occasion to talk about "give thanks" and "give life"! Talk to your family about giving this wonderful gift of life.
  •  National Donor Sabbath 2006 will be observed on November 10th - 12th. Most religions in the United States either officially support organ and tissue donation or support the individual choices of their members. This is an opportunity to educate your religious community. Talk to your priest, pastor, or other leaders about discussing the importance of Donor Sabbath.
